The Bug Book – The 1981 Childcraft Annual is one of my favorite Childcraft books. Since I do not own this one yet, discovering this one was a real treat. In an effort to research this project, I borrowed this annual from the library and found myself swept up in the intriguing content and beauty.
We are science loving in this home but I am not really a fan of bugs. They are just, you know, gross. But I have two boys and so bug books are more or less inevitable.
We have been long time fans of Jim Arnosky’s Creep and Flutter and books of its ilk. Books with gorgeous illustration and technical detail presented in a friendly voice. What I find totally impressive about this Childcraft annual is that this exciting book is one substantial volume of similar work.
It is clear that the editors of this volume know which kinds of information would be most interesting and useful to children.
